Initial Setup

Welcome! Below are the steps to help you set up your Gateway laptop for the first time.

1. Unpack & power up

  • Remove the laptop and all included accessories from the box.

  • Place the laptop near a wall outlet.

  • Connect the power adapter to the laptop and plug it into the outlet.

  • Press the power button to turn on the laptop.

2. Configure Windows setup

Once the laptop powers on, Windows (typically Windows 10) setup will guide you through:

  • Selecting your Region / Language

  • Choosing a Keyboard layout

  • Optionally adding a second keyboard layout or skipping

  • Connecting to a Wi-Fi network

  • Accepting the Microsoft / Windows License Agreement

  • Signing in or creating a Microsoft account

  • Configuring privacy settings, linking OneDrive, setting up optional features like Cortana

Tip: If you don’t have internet access now, there is often a “I don’t have internet” or “Continue with limited setup” option you can use.

3. Adjust date, time & basic settings

  • After setup, check the date and time (bottom-right corner of the desktop).

  • If it’s not correct: go to Settings → Date & Time, turn off “Set time automatically,” adjust manually, and then turn auto back on.

  • Review and modify any default privacy or security settings as desired.

4. Final checks & updates

  • Install Windows updates (go to Settings → Update & Security → Windows Update) to make sure your system is current.

  • Verify battery status and charging—make sure the adapter is working correctly.

  • Install or activate any antivirus / security software.

  • Optionally, create recovery media or a system restore point.

5. You’re ready to go!

Once setup and updates are complete, your laptop is ready for daily use.
